What is a smoke detector alarm system and why do you need it?
Fire Infinity Engineering Services supplies, installs, tests and maintains smoke detector alarm systems for premises across Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. From our base in Sungai Buloh, we work with condominiums, factories, offices, shops and homes throughout the Klang Valley.

A smoke detector alarm system uses detectors installed on ceilings and in key areas to sense smoke. When smoke is detected, the alarm is raised through sounders, bells or strobes. In most commercial and multi-occupancy buildings, smoke detectors are connected to a central fire alarm control panel so the alarm reaches the whole building.
Fire detection is covered under Part VIII of the Uniform Building By-Laws 1984 (UBBL), which deals with fire alarms, detection and extinguishment from by-law 225 onwards. The Tenth Schedule sets out what each building type needs. The Malaysian Standard MS 1745 covers fire detection and alarm systems, including detectors, panels, sounders and manual call points.
For designated premises under the Fire Services Act 1988 (Act 341), a fire certificate (Perakuan Bomba) must be renewed annually. Operating without a valid certificate is an offence under section 33, with a fine of up to RM50,000, up to 5 years' jail, or both. Detectors that are missing, faulty or covered up can cause problems when it is time to renew.
With a conventional panel, the alarm tells you which zone the smoke came from. With an addressable panel, it tells you the exact detector and its location.

Not every area suits a smoke detector. Choosing the right device for each space is one of the main ways to avoid nuisance alarms.
Smoke detectors
For offices, corridors, bedrooms, stores and most general areas where smoke is the earliest sign of fire.

For areas where smoke detectors may trigger falsely, such as kitchens or dusty spaces.

Smoke Detector: frequently asked questions
Why does my smoke detector keep giving false alarms?
The usual causes are dust build-up, insects, a detector placed near a kitchen or bathroom, or an ageing unit. Sometimes a heat detector is the better choice for that spot. We can inspect and recommend the fix.
Should I use a smoke detector or a heat detector?
Smoke detectors give earlier warning in most areas. Heat detectors suit places where smoke, steam or dust is normal, such as kitchens. We advise on the right mix during the site visit.
Can you add new smoke detectors to my existing fire alarm panel?
In many cases, yes, provided the panel is compatible and has capacity. We will check this on site.
Are smoke detectors required by law in my building?
Requirements depend on the building type under UBBL's Tenth Schedule. We will confirm what applies to your premises.
Do faulty smoke detectors affect my Perakuan Bomba renewal?
Your fire safety systems should be in working order for renewal. We recommend checking your systems and applying at least 30 days before your certificate expires.

Kenapa pengesan asap penting?
